PHASE 1 - THE BEFORE

THE CLIENT BRIEF

Lorraine and Barb wanted to treat their parents to a new kitchen, which would be better suited as they remain in their forever condo, allowing them to age safely and independently.

They knew they wanted to open-up the kitchen as much a possible to create more flow and better walkways for Alton.

Alton experiences reduced mobility on a day-to-day basis, meaning trip hazards and other clutter on the floor needed to be removed.

Marion can’t reach very high up and likes to scoot around the kitchen on her little stool when her legs get tire as she cooks and bakes.

Alton is a collector of newspapers, which he holds onto until he is finished reading them thoroughly. He also thoroughly enjoys his SodaStream and would like it to be more accessible.

Marion loves to cook and bake, sometimes cooking food in bulk to be frozen for a later date. She expressed that there was neither enough counterspace, nor enough storage in the kitchen to facilitate her day-to-day activities and hobbies.

The bulk of their entertaining is mostly done on Friday nights, playing board games and eating pizza with Barb and Daniel, their grandson, so the dining and living rooms need to accommodate 4-5 people.

The clients want a beautiful, timeless kitchen but one that will also attract future tenants once the condo is passed down to Danial as a rental income property.

Right off the bat, this lets us know that the space needs to be focused on their current and future needs, but also geared t the masses and have a huge component of durability.
